Earthquake of magnitude 4.7 struck Bankura in West Bengal, tremors felt in Jharkhand

On Sunday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 on the Richter scale hit parts of West Bengal and Jharkhand. The tremors were first informed in Bankura. Subsequently tremors were reported in the neighboring regions of Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar. As of now, no damage to properties or casualties has been reported due to the mild intensity of the quake.

As per officials, the epicenter of the earthquake is yet to be confirmed but the earthquake hit Bankura, West Bengal today at 10:39 am.

In fact, during the early morning hours today, an earthquake had struck the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, measuring magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale. The quake was relatively mild and is unlikely to have caused any damage to life or property in the region.

Moreover, the Andaman coast has been witnessing frequent earthquakes since the last few days. On May 22, tremors of 5.6 magnitude struck 108-km east of Mayabunder at 6:09 am in the morning. Low-intensity impact was reported from parts of Andaman and Nicobar neighboring Myanmar.

The aftershocks of Wednesday's earthquake were felt on Saturday as well, as tremors measuring 5.0 magnitude shook parts of Andaman Islands at 2:52 am in the night. No loss of lives or assets were recorded.
