Earthquake jolts Tajikistan, tremors felt in Jammu and Kashmir, DelhiA strong earthquake of magnitude 7.2 hit Tajikistan this afternoon. Tremors were also felt in parts of North India including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. As per reports, various areas of Kyrgyzstan, China’s Xinjiang, and some parts of Pakistan also experienced tremors.

The depth of the earthquake is 30 km, and the epicenter lies in the Hindukush belt about 109 km West of Murghob in Tajikistan. As of now, no damage or casualties have been reported. Residents living close to the earthquake affected zone are safe. As per locals, this is the third earthquake witnessed in a month over the region.

Mild but long shocks were felt in Islamabad and its neighbouring areas including Peshawar, and Balochistan. High rise buildings in Delhi-NCR shook, while mild tremors were felt in other parts of North India. Afghanistan also experienced strong tremors due to its close location to the epicenter.

People in Jammu and Kashmir could feel the objects shaking and soon moved out of their homes. The impact is said to be mild due to its depth, which was 30 km below the Earth’s surface.
