Summer seems to be arriving earlier each year, and 2024 is no exception. Several parts of the country, particularly Rajasthan, Gujarat, South Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra have already been experiencing scorching temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for the past few days. Akola in Vidarbha, Maharashtra, crossed this threshold as early as March 24th.
The heatwave is expected to intensify across Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Karnataka, and parts of Gujarat. These regions, along with southwest Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, northern Maharashtra, and Vidarbha, can also expect warmer nights.
The next two and a half months, encompassing April, May, and the first half of June, are predicted to be exceptionally hot across northwest, east, and central India. The arrival of the southwest monsoon, typically around June 1st over Kerala, brings much-needed relief by lowering temperatures across the south peninsula and northeastern states.
However, before the arrival of the monsoon, Coastal areas of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra can expect hot and humid conditions during these months.
People venturing outdoors are advised to stay hydrated, carrying water and umbrellas for protection from the harsh sun. Daily wage earners, construction workers, and farmers working in the fields are particularly vulnerable to these scorching conditions. It's crucial to take precautions to avoid heatstroke and dehydration.
