In the month of April, pre-monsoon activities occur across many parts of the country. Delhi weather which was hot and sweltry until a few days ago, has witnessed a significant change in the past two days. It received thunderstorm and dust storm activities recently resulting in the fall of temperature to quite an extent.

The maximum temperatures were seen settling in the low 30s. Yesterday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded its day temperature at 31.4°C and the Palam observatory recorded its maximum at 31.8°C. Ayanagar and Ridge also recorded their maximum temperatures at 31.2°C and 30.9°C respectively.

A fresh Western Disturbance has approached the Western Himalayas. Along with this, an induced cyclonic circulation is also marked over North Haryana and adjoining western parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Therefore, we expect one or two short spells of rain and thundershower activities with strong gusty winds over Delhi-NCR till April 11. Dust storm may also precede the thundershower activity. Meanwhile, the most probable period for pre-monsoon activity is early morning, late afternoon and evening which has been the case in the last few days.

However, by April 12, the cyclonic circulation will become insignificant leading to dry and sunny weather conditions.

Day temperatures which are currently below normal will gradually start rising and are expected to once again become above normal by April 13 and April 14.
