Rain in Punjab

In the absence of any significant weather system, dry and hot weather conditions along with dusty moderate winds were prevailing over Haryana and Punjab for the last many days. These states were observing slightly warmer nights along with isolated dust storm and strong winds, until now. However, now, with some strong systems coming up, light rain is likely in parts of Punjab during the next few days, wherein places like Bhatinda, Amritsar, Moga, Jalandhar, Hisar and Sirsa may get to see dust storm and thundershowers.

According to Skymet Weather, at present, a Western Disturbance as an upper air Trough is lying over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. This system would be moving northeastwards slowly. Thus, moisture incursion will increase over the states of Punjab and Haryana, thus leading to dust storm and short spell of light thundershowers during the next 24 to 36 hours. These activities would be accompanied by strong winds.

Scattered places in Punjab, while isolated pockets of Haryana such as Bhatinda, Amritsar, Firozpur, Moga, Faridkot, Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehgarh, Jalandhar, Pathankot will see dust storm and thundershowers for the next two to three days. In the wake of these activities, the temperatures would drop down slightly, however, mercury would soar above 40-degree mark in most parts.

As the upcoming spell would be short and light in nature, no significant drop in temperature would be observed. As a result, high temperatures may result in damage to Paddy, Sugarcane, and Cotton crops.
