Dust storm and rain likely in Chandigarh, Amritsar, Patiala, Ambala, Karnal and Panipat

May 23, 2019 8:58 AM |

In the last 24 hours, the weather in most parts of Punjab and Haryana remained mainly dry, barring few pockets of Haryana that witnessed light thunderstorm and rainfall activity.

As predicted by Skymet, the Western Disturbance is now approaching Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is present over parts of West Rajasthan. Along with this a trough is extending from this circulation up to western parts of Uttar Pradesh across Haryana.

Thus, the intensity and spread of pre-Monsoon weather activities will now increase over both these states. And today dust storm followed by scattered rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong gusty winds will be observed in parts of Punjab and Haryana during late afternoon/evening hours.

During this period, isolated hailstorm activity in parts of Punjab and Haryana cannot be ruled out.

During the next two days, due to rains, temperatures in most places of Punjab and Haryana will settle below 40 degree Celsius, resulting in pleasant weather conditions with partly cloudy sky.

After May 24, the weather system will start moving away eastwards, leading to decrease in pre-Monsoon weather activities over most parts of North India including Punjab and Haryana. Thereafter, temperatures will once again start rising in the region.

This will also be the last spell of pre-Monsoon weather activity for the northwestern plains, as we do not expect another Western Disturbance or cyclonic circulation to affect the region anytime soon. In the wake of these dry weather conditions, heat wave like conditions may return in parts of South Haryana.
