Dust storm and rain in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad from May 10

May 8, 2019 11:38 AM |

May is the hottest month for the National Capital Region as the average normal maximum temperature of the city during this month ranges between 39˚ to 40˚C.

During this season, on April 30, both Palam and Safdarjung observatories recorded their highest maximum temperature of 45.3˚C and 43.7˚C, respectively. Thereafter, due to back-to-back spells of rain and thundershower activities, the day temperature in Delhi-NCR dropped significantly.

Now since the last 3 days, in the wake of dry weather conditions, day temperatures in Delhi and NCR are increasing continuously. Yesterday, Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory (Base observatory) recorded its maximum temperature at 41.3˚C, which was about 3 degrees above normal.

Today also we expect the maximum temperatures of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad to rise and settle 2 to 3 degrees above normal.

However, relief is in sight for the National Capital Region from May 10 as a fresh spell of pre-Monsoon activity is likely to commence over the region. Initially on May 10 and 11, dust storm and thunderstorm activity will affect Delhi and NCR.

But moving further, the intensity and spread of these weather activities will increase. And from May 12 and 13, widespread rain and thundershowers accompanied with strong winds will be witnessed in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.

As it is the pre-Monsoon season, these rains will take place mostly during late afternoon or evening hours. Due to widespread rain, significant drop will be observed in both day and night temperatures of the region.
