Dry week ahead for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana

August 31, 2023 2:59 PM |

Delhi witnessed a few good spells of rain during the first week of August. Similarly, northern districts of Punjab had been receiving occasional showers with one or two heavy spells. Scattered occasional rain activities occurred over the eastern and northern parts of Haryana. However, overall rain activities remained below par in the month of August.

Due to good spells of rain in the month of July, all the above Meteorological divisions are still in a normal rain category but the picture ahead is not rosy. We do not expect any significant weather activities over Punjab, Haryana, or Delhi during next week. The weather will remain dry and warm. Westerly winds will continue therefore humidity will be slightly less.

The month of September will witness below-normal rainfall over Northwest India. There may be isolated light rain during the second or third week of September but chances of heavy downpour are ruled out. Punjab and Haryana have irrigation facilities therefore there is no significant risk for the farming community but the continuous dry spell is a cause of concern. There will not be enough moisture in the soil for upcoming Rabi crops.
