Dry Weather Week For Delhi, Mercury Likely To Dip

Halfway through the month of October, the capital city has remained completely dry. As such, the least weather activity was expected for some time after the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon on the 02nd of October 2024. Weather conditions over and around Delhi are very much on the expected lines. Mostly clear sky, hazy morning, mild breeze and nip in the air. These are likely to continue for this week and change, if any, will be at the start of next week.

October as such is one of the least rainiest months with a normal of 14.3mm rainfall, and these rains are also generally attributed and associated with the late withdrawal of monsoon. There are occasions when the city has recorded absolutely nil rainfall in the month. However, there are events when the capital registered three-digit rainfall in the month. Excessive rainfall of that nature is not expected during this month.

There is no active western disturbance likely to affect the northern plains, this week. There are some clues for the next week but the confidence level is low because the model accuracy drops sharply after 4-5 days. There are precursors of an induced weather system over the northern plains arriving around 21st-22nd October. This will have to be observed for continuity, till the next 72 hours. The minimum temperatures have dropped below 20°C for the last four days, on the trot.  Today, the Safdarjung observatory recorded a low of 17.4°C, the lowest of this season, so far. This may take a further dip by 1°-2°C in the next 3-4 days, before rising marginally by the end of this week or the start of the next one.
