Dry weather to persist over Chennai

August 1, 2017 5:23 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since more than a week, the weather conditions over the state of Tamil Nadu and its capital city, Chennai has remained almost dry. Though isolated light Monsoon rains have been continuing over the area, these showers failed to bring down the temperatures. Hence, the weather over Chennai and nearby areas have remained warm and humid for quite a long time now.

The reason for these weather conditions can be attributed to the absence of significant weather system prevailing over Tamil Nadu. Due to this, Monsoon rains and thundershowers have remained in hiding over Chennai. In fact, we do not foresee any weather systems forming over the state. With this, there are no major chances of good Monsoon rains to occur over Chennai and adjoining areas until the next two to three days.

Also, Tamil Nadu lies in the rain shadow region and due to this, most parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai receives very less rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon.

However,  scattered light Monsoon rains cannot be ruled out over the area from August 4-7. These rains and thundershowers will be patchy and highly localized in nature and will not give any major relief to the residents of Chennai from this prevailing almost dry weather conditions.
