Rain Kolkata post

Kolkata had been witnessing continuous good rainfall activities since last few days.  Regardless of the end of four months prolonged Southwest Monsoon season, good showers kept on showing up over the City of Joy.

Besides this, there has been a change in the weather patterns over West Bengal and thus, a few places over the state have recorded light to moderate rains in the past 24 hours. Talking about Kolkata, the city has once again started to witness the not so cheery warm and dry weather conditions.

Within the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Malda recorded moderate rainfall of 13.1 mm and Asansol recorded 3.4 mm. Whereas, the remaining districts of West Bengal did not record any good amount of rains.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a  feeble cyclonic circulation which is seen over East Bihar and adjoining areas. Due to this, scattered light to moderate rains are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal including districts such as Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Siliguri and Coochbehar during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rains is further expected to reduce gradually over the aforementioned region. After 48 hours, several places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will experience dry weather conditions.

As per Skymet Weather, there are possibilities of a probable depression to form over central parts of Bay of Bengal and is likely to move further in a northwest direction towards Odisha Coast.

During this time, several places over Gangetic West Bengal such as Kolkata, Bankura, Purulia, Midnapore and Bardhaman will witness moderate rains while the rest parts will settle with scattered light showers.

As on October 12, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that West Bengal is rain surplus by 40%.
