Pre-Monsoon activities over the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan have witnessed a gradual increase in the pre-Monsoon activities as we from March to April and then move further towards the month of May.
In this also, the first half of March is almost like winters for most parts of North India. Pre-Monsoon activities begin during the fag end of March, continuing in April and at its peak during the month of May.
This year, no different, saw similar weather patterns as March remained warm due to lack of rains.
The regional rainfall deficiency over this belt in the month of March was also high, exceeding 80% with Haryana being the most rainfall deficient at 96%, followed by Rajasthan at 95% and the least being borne by Punjab at 80%.

April also seems to follow similar footprints as rains have so far remained on the lesser side in the month. However, the second week of April from April 9 until 11 brought widespread light to moderate rains for almost the entire pocket.
Due to these rainy spells, the temperatures that were settling above the normal levels dipped by a few notches and settled close to normal or even way below normal. The maximums across most of the locations settled six to seven degrees below normal between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius.
However, since yesterday, the weather of North India has once again cleared and the same is expected to prevail for the next 24-48 hours. As of now, the weather would continue to remain clear with increased sunshine hours.
The temperatures may rise again due to the prevalence of westerly-northwesterly winds over the region, reaching above normal and settling in the range of 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.
However, Skymet Weather predicts another feeble Western Disturbance to approach the Western Himalayan region around April 16 which is likely to give another round of rain and thundershowers over the belt on April 16 and 17, finding clearance of weather by April 18 onwards.
During this time, the stations like Amritsar, Ambala, Chandigarh, Karnal, Sri Ganganagar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Kurukshetra, and Hanumangarh would get to witness rains.
