Since last two to three days, many parts of seven sister states of Northeast India are witnessing fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities. In the span of 24 hours from 08:30am on Saturday, many parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed good rainfall. Even parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and also witnessed good rainfall.
This rainfall activity is seen over the region due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya. A trough from this system is seen up to Bay of Bengal. This trough is the main reason for this fairly widespread rain and thundershower activity over many parts of the states.
According to Skymet Weather Chief Meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, this cyclonic circulation will fade away soon and the trough will move towards east. This will mean that the reduction in rain intensity can be expected. Only parts of East Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland will get scattered rains for next 24 hours.
On March 14, gradual decrease in rain activity is expected to prevail over the region and rain activity will stop completely from March 15 onward.
