Dry weather in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and UP to increase maximums

April 18, 2019 8:45 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Since the last two to three days, many parts of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh have observed fairly widespread rain and thundershowers accompanied with dust storm, strong winds and strong lightning strikes.

These weather activities have lead to significant drop in day temperatures by 10 to 12 degrees in most parts of the northwestern plains. In fact, isolated pockets witnessed a drop of 14 to 15 degrees.

Now the weather systems which were responsible for these weather activities i.e. the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, have moved away eastwards. Although a feeble Western Disturbance still persists over the hills of North India.

Therefore, today onward we expect day temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh to start rising. The temperatures will rise slowly, therefore heat wave like condition in parts of Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan will not make a comeback anytime soon.

Dry weather lies ahead for Northwest India in the coming 2 to 3 days and heat wave may make a comeback around April 20 or 21. By April 19, maximum temperatures will settle in higher 30’s over most parts of Northwest India.

Today we expect isolated light rain along with dust storm and thunderstorm in the region towards the latter half of the day, as availability of moisture and high temperature gives rise to thundery build up.
