The national capital from June 1 to JUne 14, did not see any rains and nil rainfall was recorded. Pre Monsoon rain activity started around June 15, which was a fairly long spell wherein the temperatures started to drop and heat wave took a complete backseat.
The rains have not been very intense, Safdarjung recorded 23.7 mm so far and Palam saw just about 15 mm. However, there has been a drastic change in the temperature profile wherein maximums dipped from 45 degrees to 34-35 degrees at present. There was a point in time when the maximum dropped to 31 degrees as well.
Maximums across Delhi and NCR are settling 4-5 degrees below the normal levels. Even the minimums are hovering around 23-24 degrees. Thus, both minimums and maximums have dropped significantly due to this long Pre Monsoon spell. Other changes that are visible are the change in the wind pattern, cloudy skies, increase in humidity, which are precursors to Monsoon.
For the next 3-4 days, we do not expect any significant weather and mostly dry conditions will prevail until June 26. June 27 may bring in some change in the air as a precursor to some Monsoon system. Winds will become easterlies, conditions will become favourable for patchy showers and a spell of thundershowers. Between June 27 and 30, rains, short spells of thundershowers may be seen and anytime between June 29 and July 1, Monsoon will make an onset over Delhi NCR region.
