The national capital continues to witness pleasant mornings, with a slight nip in the air, in the early hours. Minimum temperatures were still arrested below normal for most locations. Base observatory Safdarjung recorded 12.2°C and Meteorological Office Lodhi Road, further lower at 11.2°C, today morning. The lowest of all was Mungeshpur with 10.7°C, about 6°C below the normal. Safdarjung and Lodhi Road, both remained below normal by about 4°C. Day temperatures are staying close to 30°C, very close to the normal mark. Due to the absence of rain, these are likely to increase, taking baby steps, over the next 4-5 days.
There is no active western disturbance likely to influence Delhi weather, other than the incremental rise of mercury, both day and night, during the week. Some clouds would drift in on a few days like the 20th -21st and again between the 23rd and 24th of March, partially restricting sunshine. There is a feeble disturbance with an embedded circulation tomorrow, in the close vicinity of Delhi. Northeast Rajasthan, bordering Haryana and Delhi may witness light rains. Favourite locations being Jaipur, Sikar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Alwar. Some clouds may spill over the capital city as well, sometime late in the day.
Another western disturbance, more active than this one, is likely to arrive on 21st March. Once again, the impact will remain confined to the hills. However, a change in the wind pattern may drag warm and moist air, raising day temperature to about 33-34°C around the weekend, still a notch below normal. In the last 10 days of March, Delhi observes a minimum of about 15-16°C and the day maximum touches 35-36°C. So, the temperatures are unlikely to soar during March and troubling summer will get roll over to April. It is on the same track as last year, when the highest maximum escaped the 35°mark and got arrested at 34.3°C, that too during the middle of the month on 13th March. The last ten days of the month were fairly comfortable, clicking mercury in the low 30’s. A repeat of last year can not be ruled out, this time, as well.
