Winters have remained calm this season until December. However, the year 2017 brought cold snaps with itself thereby making the weather across northwest India cool and chilly. Most parts of the Northern plains observed foggy mornings as well.
States like Rajasthan and Haryana have even witnessed sub-zero temperatures. Delhi too was engulfed under thick fog layer. Thereafter, parts of Northwest India including a few regions in Southern Peninsula and northeastern states also received wintry showers that made the weather even cooler.
As per Skymet Weather, the occurrence of rain or snow in the hilly regions of the country during this season is due to the presence of significant Western Disturbances. Likewise, rains or thundershowers in the plains of Northwest India is also attributed to the presence of an induced cyclonic circulation.
At present, the Western Disturbance which was over East Jammu and Kashmir is moving eastwards and hence, weather across entire North India is likely to remain dry until the next Western Disturbance approaches which is predicted to affect the Western Himalayas by February 3.
Similarly, no significant weather system is in sight for parts of Peninsular India and hence weather is expected to remain dry in parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as well.
