Dry weather ahead for East and Northeast India, dip in minimums likely

East India has been witnessing absolutely dry weather conditions since last many days. Usually, the month of November is one of the driest months for East and Northeast India particularly for the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. There are some occasional weather activities though which usually occur due to eastwards movement of the Western Disturbance.

Sometimes, Coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal also receive good rains in the month of November. These rains are due to the formation of any Low-Pressure Area, Depression or Cyclone over Central parts of Bay of Bengal which travels towards the Indian Coast.

This year, most of the East India was devoid of such weather activities. However, due to the Cyclone ‘Titli’, Coastal Odisha received good rains. Also, scattered rains occurred over the entire Gangetic West Bengal.

Presently, there is no significant weather system that may affect eastern parts of the country for at least one week. Therefore, we expect dry weather to continue over East India.

The winter has not yet commenced over the eastern parts of the country until now. The dry and cold winds from northwest are expected to commence now which will drop the day and night temperatures across East India by few notches, marking the start of winters.
