Dry Weather Across The Country Next Five Days, No Cold Wave Likely Over North India

No significant weather system will move across major parts of the country. Therefore, dry weather conditions will prevail over almost the entire country, except in a few small pockets. These activities in small pockets also will be mild and so, inconsequential for any noticeable changes. However, seasonal cold, Fog and Mist, frost in places and clouds in patches will prevail over the designated places.

Over northern parts, the mountains will witness the passage of two weak western disturbances in quick succession. However, these will impact only the higher hills of the region. Lower hills and the popular resorts will remain devoid of any snowfall for the next week or even longer. Some clouds may drift over these parts, not leading to any precipitation, as such. Plains of north India will skip any winter rains and may find solace with seasonal cold, moderate to thick fog and chilly winds during morning and night. Cold wave conditions will remain abated. The absence of clouds and the prevalence of sunshine may raise the day temperatures in many places.

Seasonal anticyclone has been pushed far south of its normal position.  Therefore, central parts of the country covering Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh will witness uninterrupted fair weather conditions. Mist, haze and shallow fog will continue to be the highlights for the entire region. Extreme cold conditions are unlikely till midweek next.

Southern parts of the country will have a long pause in the weather activity.  Very light and absolutely limited rain, mostly localized, may visit coastal parts of Tamil Nadu for the next 2-3 days and go dry, thereafter. Kerala will largely skip any decent showers. As such, the northeast monsoon seems to have retreated and the easterly stream weakened over the Bay of Bengal. Equatorial systems, moving east to west, are far from the reach of the southern peninsula and not likely to impact the weather conditions.

Eastern parts of the country will be the sole region coming in for scattered weather activity, in the coming days.  Completely dry weather conditions are likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal for the next 4-5 days.  Later, under the influence of an in situ cyclonic circulation over Bihar and North Bengal and anticyclonic flow from the Bay of Bengal, scattered rain and thundershowers are likely over Odisha, West Bengal and northeastern parts on 17th and 18th January. The activity may even reach parts of South Chhattisgarh.  Broad clearance over the entire region is expected from 20th Jan onward.
