After a long delay, Northeast Monsoon has finally made an onset over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh as well as Karnataka on Friday. Northeasterly winds have strengthened over the area in the lower tropospheric levels.

The northwestern plains across the country are presently witnessing dry weather. In fact, northwesterly winds are covering more areas each day.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, dry weather conditions are likely to increase further over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The weather across these states during afternoons will be warm. Marginal drop in morning and night temperatures is likely over southern parts of Haryana, adjoining Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Northeast Rajasthan.

Haze is likely to increase marginally during the morning hours. Sky conditions will be clear and sunny.

Due to warm weather, stubble burning, and favorable meteorological conditions have prevented the smog in Delhi and adjoining areas from looking as perilously polluted as it did last year.

The unabated stubble-burning in Punjab and Haryana estimated to be around 35 million tonnes and was banned by the NGT in November 2015. However, farmers continued to burn paddy straw.

Additionally, the commencement of winter worsens the issue as the cooler air traps the pollutants more, this phenomenon is known as inversion.
