Dry and warm weather conditions are being experienced by the entire Tamil Nadu since the last many days. Chennai saw some isolated light rains on February 9. In fact, the city hasn’t received any rains since then.
However, the prolonged dry spell is soon going to come to an end over Chennai and rest parts of Tamil Nadu. The next four to five days are going to be active in terms of rains for the region.
Now, strong easterly winds are expected to commence over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Moreover, a Trough has also formed in the lower levels from South Coastal Tamil Nadu to Madhya Maharashtra. Therefore, we expect scattered rains and thundershowers to commence over South Tamil Nadu and in isolated pockets over Interior and South coastal Tamil Nadu.
These rains will be witnessed on February 21 and 22. Chennai may also get isolated patchy rains and thundershowers during this period.
Isolated thunderstorm and rain activities are likely in the coastal areas of the state between February 24 and 26. However, these rains will remain confined to isolated pockets and will only be witnessed for a short duration. Meanwhile, these rains will not have any impact over the temperature profile.
