After wreaking havoc over many parts of Tamil Nadu including the state capital, Chennai, rains took a back-seat over Peninsular India.

The region has remained dry for almost a month now as no weather system affected Peninsular India.

However, the prolonged dry spell is finally coming to an end for most of Peninsular India. Rainfall of light intensity is expected over the region after 24 hours and will continue for 24 to 48 hours.

But, rains will give a miss over Chennai, and the capital city will remain dry for a few more days.

The confluence zone is over Central India, and a trough or wind discontinuity is extending up to the Northern parts of Kerala. Due to this change, dry weather conditions will finally come to an end and rain will be observed over South Karnataka, North Tamil Nadu, and North Kerala.

Isolated rain in pockets will be seen over the region. Sky conditions will remain partly cloudy to cloudy. Places including Bengaluru, Mysore, Mandya, Kannur, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, and Kochi will receive some rainfall.

Due to the rainfall activity over Peninsular India, minimums are expected to rise marginally. However, no change will be seen in the day temperatures. After January 19, dry weather conditions will once again take over.
