Prolonged dry spell over the country is likely to come to an end very soon. According to Skymet Weather, good winter rains are expected over most parts of India. The spell is expected to be five-day long commencing from January 16 up to January 20.
Till now, weather activity in terms of rain and snow has been mainly confined to hills of North and East India that too over the extremely higher reaches of the region.
However, North India will continue to witness dry weather conditions. Usually rains originate from the northern region and shift further.
But this time, a confluence zone has formed over Central India as a result of interaction between northwesterly winds from northern plains and most southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal.
The rain belt will initially cover parts of Central and East India. Later on, it will extend further and cover parts of South and Northeast India as well.
Most parts of Madhya Pradesh, North Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka will receive scattered light to moderate showers during this period.
Parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat may also receive some light rain on account of the weather phenomenan.
According to Skymet Weather, rains are expected to peak on January 18 and 19, wherein we can witness some good showers over Central India, particularly over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
In wake of recent activity, temperatures over central areas of the country that have been settling above normal will also register a drop.
This wet spell will also leave lot of moisture in the air and both the factors coupled together will lead to foggy mornings on several occasions.
