August 29, 2015 1:09 PM |

Bhopal weatherThe well-marked low pressure area that originated over westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast and moved in a westerly direction is now lying over Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh. The weather system is likely to move further northwest.

The system has already given fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain over Odisha and Chhattisgarh in last 24 hours. For instance, Raipur the capital of Chhattisgarh received 29 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. Rajnandgaon and Jagdalpur in the same state observed 33 mm and 32 mm of rain, respectively.

Odisha also saw some good weather activity. During the same span of 24 hours, Jharsuguda recorded 22.7 mm of rain, while Keonjhargarh witnessed 20 mm of rainfall.

This spell of rain will continue to last in the region and is likely to affect East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh in next 24 hours. Due to a week long dry weather in the state the rainfall deficiency in Madhya Pradesh had risen to 20%, which is now likely to reduce with this current spell of good rain.

Chhattisgarh which is also observing a rainfall deficiency of 16% is expected to gain from this spell of rain.

This spell of rain in Madhya Pradesh has come at a time when the farmers needed it the most to irrigate their land. The Monsoon rains will also help in pulling down the temperatures that had risen and were settling in the mid-thirties.
