While almost the entire country was experiencing cool and dryweather, people in south India were witnessing rainy days in the last oneweekdue to an active northeast monsoon. However, current forecast suggests that rain could take a break in the region for a brief period. “Northeast monsoon rain is expected to remain subdued for at least next 48 hours”, a senior Meteorologist atSkymetweather.com
Records show rainfall has been very little to nil in the last 24 hours in most of the major cities of peninsular India.Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram haven’t recorded any rain whileChennaihas only witnessed traces of rain.
The only cities to have received rain in the last 24 hours are Coimbatore and Nagapatnam, where 1.6mm and 1mm of rain was recorded respectively.
“This new development of dry spell in between is nothing unusual because a monsoon surge often loses its strength temporarily for a few days, as a result of which, rain reduces”, says weather forecaster Mahesh Palawat.
“Even though this is a period of mainly dry weather for south India, we still can’t rule out possibilities of thunderstorm and isolated light rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Karnataka”, added Palawat.
Days could become slightly humid and uneasy with temperatures settling slightly on the higher side in Tamil Nadu. Maximums and minimums will be almost near normal elsewhere in south India.
