Peninsular India has been receiving scattered rain since the onset of Southwest Monsoon. But now, dry conditions are expected to prevail over the region for the next 3 to 4 days, before rain returns. But till then, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, interior Karnataka, and southern Andhra Pradesh will remain relatively dry.
This dry spell will be experienced in the region due to the depression which exists over west-central Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast. This system can be blamed for subdued rainfall activity over Peninsular India. This is because now moist winds and rain will remain limited to Odisha, Telangana, and Central India. Hence dry conditions will prevail over Peninsular India.
But scattered rainfall activity is just round the corner. As the depression in the Bay of Bengal moves towards Central India, it will become insignificant. Hence, its effect will mellow down and assist rainfall activity in Peninsular India. The region is expected to receive scattered rain later in the month, around June 26.

Subdued rainfall activity will cause temperatures in the region to rise again. While parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive scanty rainfall, no significant respite is expected over the region till June 26.
