Dry days for India ahead, Northeast Monsoon to be the main sufferer

India is gearing up for dry weather conditions for rest of the November. In fact, weather remained dry over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours as well.

According to Skymet Weather, November and December are the months when country records least amount of rainfall. Thus, approaching dry spell which would last up to next 4-5 days is nothing new. But this year, this spell would be great relevance as the country is battling high rainfall deficiency.

As per weathermen, during this time of the year, weather systems are not very common and come in spurts. Western Disturbances and Northeast Monsoon primarily govern the rainfall over the country. And both the weather phenomena come with breaks and does not give prolonged spells of rainfall.

With the arrival of these systems, we see spells of rains for 3-4 days, followed by a break period which last till the other systems makes it way.

Coming back to the present situation, rains have remained far and few this season. The countrywide rainfall deficiency is as high as 46% as on November 25. After making much delayed onset, Northeast Monsoon has seen just two active spells of rainfall. On the other hand, the frequency and intensity of Western Disturbance has also been disappointing.

In wake of this, we are afraid that approaching dry weather would have grave effect on the countrywide rainfall. Weathermen predict that weather would go mainly dry over most parts of the country till November 30.

Isolated rains would be there, but they would also be confined to higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on November 27 and 28. Meanwhile, Coastal Tamil Nadu could manage some isolated light showers on November 28-29.

However, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar would see nearly zero rain activity during this time.

Easterly winds would be dominating the northwestern and central parts of the country, leading to comfortable to pleasant weather conditions. This might also result in increase in temperatures across the region.
