Dry conditions in Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan to persist

Weather in Gujarat and over parts most parts of Rajasthan has remained almost dry after June 23. Before June 23, heavy rainfall was recorded over many parts of the two states due to a depression which was formed over northeast Arabian Sea. The system later entered Gujarat and then moved towards Central India and adjoining areas.

Now, although Monsoon has covered the entire country, it remains active only in East India and Kerala. As of now, Gujarat and Rajasthan remain virtually dry, and Skymet does not foresee any significant weather activity over these areas for the next 3 to 4 days.

But areas like Surat and Bhavnagar, which lie in coastal Gujarat, along with isolated areas of southeast Rajasthan such as Kota and Chittorgarh, may get light rain which won’t bring much relief. Currently, day temperatures are settling under 40°C over entire Gujarat and most parts of Rajasthan. But due to high levels of humidity in the region, along with bright sunshine and clear skies, conditions remain largely uncomfortable.

Generally speaking, July and August are the rainiest months for Gujarat and Rajasthan. But significant respite over Gujarat is likely only when a system forms over the Arabian Sea and affects the region. However, northern and eastern parts of Rajasthan will get some relief in coming days, due to a Western Disturbance which is expected to affect the region by June 29. This system is likely to induce a cyclonic circulation over northern Rajasthan and Haryana. Scattered rain is expected over North and East Rajasthan.
