The northwestern plains of the country such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan have experienced dry and warm weather during the last 24 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, the major reason for ongoing weather conditions over these states can be attributed to the presence of an active Western Disturbance. At present, a feeble WD as an upper air Trough is moving across the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the system will have not direct impact over Northwest India. Thus, we expect dry and warm weather to continue over these parts until May 21.

Moreover, with the clear sky conditions and presence of dry and warm north-westerlies, the temperature would undergo a major change. We expect that for the next two to three days, temperature pattern will follow an increasing trend. With a significant rise in temperature, hot weather conditions will take over the entire Northwest India.

Further, a relief in ongoing condition is expect around May 22, when another active Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayas. This system will bring along spell of dust storm and thundershowers over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.

The National Capital Territory is presently experiencing ‘satisfactory to moderate’ pollution levels. However, we expect a marginal increase in pollution levels, with pollution settling under ‘moderate to poor’ category, during the coming days.
