Dry and warm days ahead for Pune

Pune has been witnessing dry and hot weather conditions for several days now. In absence of any pre-Monsoon showers, both maximum and minimum temperatures have registered a rise and are settling above the normal average.

On Wednesday, Pune had recorded day maximum at 39°C that was two degrees above normal. Night temperature also settled at 22.9°C and was one degree above average.

Though pre-Monsoon activity has picked up pace over the entire country but parts of Madhya Maharashtra including Pune are still lagging behind.

We are approaching second half of May but the city has only recorded 4 mm of rain so far. Earlier also in April, Pune was mainly dry with mere 0.3 mm of rain against the monthly average of 16.6 mm.

However according to Skymet Weather, the ongoing weather conditions are no different from what the city usually witnesses during May.

As per the records, Pune has surpassed 10 mm of rain only twice in last decade. It has witnessed 64.6 mm of rain in 2006 and 112.7 mm in 2015. Rest of the years were all below 10 mm of rain.

Further Skymet Weather predicts that no major change is expected in the weather despite chances of isolated thunderstorms or very light rain in the next 48 hours. Thereafter, weather will go dry completely till May 17, leading to further increase in temperatures.

We are expecting relief from dry weather conditions May 18 onwards as pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers will make a comeback over the city.

This spell would continue for another 4-5 days, resulting in significant drop in temperatures by 2-3 degrees.
