Since the beginning of May, the financial capital of the country Mumbai has not revived any rains. In fact, during the month of April also the city witnessed almost dry weather conditions with one or two short spells of thundershower activity.
During the remaining days of May too, we do not expect any pre-Monsoon weather activity to occur in Mumbai and its nearby areas.
The day temperature of the city during the remaining period of the month will settle between 34 and 35 degree Celsius, while the night temperature will hover around 26 degree Celsius. The humidity levels in the region will also be high making the weather very sultry and uneasy for people.
Normally by the last week of May, Mumbai starts experiencing rain and thundershower activities, but this time the scenario looks a bit different as the weather in the city will continue to remain dry and hot.
As the winds blowing over the region are northerly/northwesterly which are warm and dry in nature, temperatures of the city will also continue to remain high.
During the first week of June, around June 2 or 3, a feeble trough is likely to develop over coastal parts of Maharashtra and winds will then become westerly, leading to pre-Monsoon weather activities.
Thus, we can say that around June 2, on and off pre-Monsoon weather activities in the form of thunderstorm, rain and thundershowers will be witnessed in Mumbai and its nearby areas. During this period, temperatures of the city may subside by a few degrees. But in the wake of high humidity levels, weather in Mumbai will still remain sultry until the onset of Monsoon.
Usually the onset date of Monsoon in Mumbai is between June 8 to 10, but this time we expect marginal delay in the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over Mumbai. Rain activity will increase significantly by June 13 or 14, and thereafter we expect Monsoon to mark its onset over the city between June 13 and 15.
