Dry and Sunny Weekend Ahead For Delhi, Image: Tosshub.com

Most parts of Delhi/NCR remained dry in the past 24 hours. Small and isolated pockets observed very light rainfall in the morning. Palam recorded 0.3mm, and Ridge measured just a trace of rainfall. This was the leftover effect of the previous day, and there is no fresh development likely during this week. Therefore, the weekend is expected to be dry and slightly hot, with very little breeze to comfort with.

The cyclonic circulation which resulted day long weather activity on Wednesday has become less marked. A feeble circulation is now marked over Northeast Rajasthan and neibhourhood. The western end of the monsoon trough has shifted slightly south of Delhi, albeit not very far. The vicinity of trough, rise in the mercury, light and moist winds may trigger some tall clouds in the later half of the day. However, the weekend on Saturday and Sunday will observe plenty of sunshine and sultry conditions, more so, during afternoon hours.

Delhi has already received above normal rainfall in September. The base station at Safdarjung has recorded 183mm rainfall against the normal of 123.4mm. There is no further addition likely in the next 5-6 days. There is likelihood of another monsoon system coming up over Bay of Bengal, shortly. Its subsequent movement across the central parts may revive the monsoon activity for Delhi and suburbs, anytime after 25thSeptember. It also means that the scheduled withdrawal of monsoon on 25th September from the national capital will overshoot the timelines.
