Dry and hot weather grips Gujarat, Rajasthan; no relief in offing

Ever since the departure of Southwest Monsoon, Rajasthan and Gujarat have been experiencing hot and dry weather. West Rajasthan is the last post for the Southwest Monsoon and the first when it comes to the withdrawal.

Hot and dry northwesterly winds with bright sunshine has already led to steep rise in temperatures for both the states. Such weather will prevail in the coming days as well. Several cities of both the states have already touched the 40 degree- Celsius mark.

Now, there has been a marginal increase in temperatures. Rajasthan has touched the mark of 41 and 42 degree- Celsius. Whereas, parts of Gujarat like Saurashtra and Kutch have touched 41 degree- Celsius. We do not expect any changes in the prevailing weather conditions. The coming week would continue to foresee dry and hot weather conditions.

However, slight relief is expected around October 7-8 with some isolated rains over West Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat, with cloudy or partly cloudy sky. Temperatures might drop marginally with few weather systems affecting the region of Rajasthan. One would be the passage of a Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, while other is a potential Depression in central parts of Arabian Sea.

Both the systems would feed moisture in form of southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea. The intensity of rains will be light at one or two places of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Overall, the month of October will be dry and hot for the inhabitants of Gujarat and Rajasthan with temperatures crossing 40 degree- Celsius at many occassions.
