Dry and hot weather conditions grip Rajasthan as Monsoon 2018 departs

India’s largest state of Rajasthan is the first one to witness the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon. This year, the retreating journey of Monsoon was delayed almost by a month against its official date of September 1.

Withdrawal of Monsoon finally began on September 29 and it has been a rapid withdrawal since then. As a result, Rajasthan is now battling dry and hot weather conditions.

Hot and dry northwesterly winds and bright sunshine has led to steep rise in the maximum temperatures, which are now almost touching 40-degree mark at several places.

Further, we do not expect any relief from the existing weather conditions, as hot weather conditions will intensify on account of an anti-cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan.

Slight relief is on cards around October 7-8, with some isolated rains over West Rajasthan and sky will be cloudy or partly cloudy. Temperatures might drop marginally with few weather systems affecting the region of Rajasthan. One would be the passage of a Western Disturbance, while other is an expected Depression over Southeast and adjoining parts of Arabian Sea.

Both the systems would feed moisture in form of Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea. The intensity of rains will be light with few spells at one or two places of Rajasthan.

The month of October is a dry month for the habitants of Rajasthan and is often touted as the second summer season. We experience rains very occasionally during this time and if this happens, it would be due to the presence of any active Western Disturbance.
