Drought renowned Telangana receives surplus Monsoon rains

June 26, 2016 2:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Telangana has comfortably surpassed the monthly normal rains and is looking ahead for more Monsoon showers in the coming days.

Till June 25, Telangana received 108 mm of rain against the monthly normal of 102.8 mm. Thus, the state is at present 5% surplus in terms of Monsoon rains. As of now, conditions seem to be favorable for few heavy to very heavy spells of rain in Telangana during next 2 to 3 days.

In the last 24 hours, many districts have received good rainfall with the state capital, Hyderabad, recording 37 mm. Ramagundam recorded 65 mm of rainfall, Nalgonda 32 mm, Medak 25 mm and Khammam 20.

The reason for increased rainfall activities in Telangana is a low pressure area, which is lying off the Andhra Coast. This weather system will move in a westerly direction and further increase rain over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In fact, Coastal Andhra has already received heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

On June 27 and 28, we expect few very heavy rain episodes over Telangana. This will further increase the Monsoon rain surplus figure over the state. There are good chances that the month of June will end on a very good note. Gradually, rainfall activities will reduce as the weather system moves away in a westerly direction, towards the central parts of the country.

North Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Marathwada are the drought prone areas of India. However, this season we are seeing very good Monsoon rains over these regions.
