Temperatures across North India likely to drop

Winters continue to play hide and seek with the people of North India with temperatures settling way too above normal. Nevertheless, both maximum and minimum temperatures are now set to plunge significantly across the region during next 48 hours.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the prevailing Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir has given scattered rain and snow over the hilly states. While, isolated rain was also observed over plains of Punjab and Rajasthan.

In wake of this activity, wind pattern will turn to cold and dry northwesterlies which will lead to drop in day and night temperatures by at least three to four degrees and settle near normal.

As per Skymet Weather, initial drop in temperatures will be marginal. But as the system clears away from the region in span of next 24 hours, we can expect a further dip in mercury thereafter.

This will also lead to massive increase in density of fog across the northern plains. Dense to very dense fog is expected to envelop Delhi, Punjab and Haryana during next few days.

However, increase in wintry chill will not sustain for long as another Western Disturbance will be affecting North India by January 11. This will again increase both the maximum and minimum temperatures across the region.

At present, the entire region is observing abnormal weather conditions, especially the plains of North India. Temperatures are unexceptionally settling on the higher side with several cities witnessing record breaking temperatures.
