Drop in minimums across Northwest India sets the stage for winters

Northwesterly winds have at last made their way across the northwestern plains of the country that include Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. These winds are dry and cold in nature, leading to significant decline in humidity levels.

Not only this, there has been already a marginal drop in the minimum temperatures in the last 24 hours.

The weathermen at Skymet Weather anticipate these winds to persist for almost a week over the region. Thus, marginal fall in both day and night temperatures would continue for another 24 to 48 hours.  in the coming days, people across the region could now start feeling wintry chill, particularly during the morning and night temperatures.

However, another Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas by November 22, that is why the drop in the mercury levels would not be substantial.

But after the passage of this Disturbance, we can expect both day and night temperatures to start plummeting November 23 onward. During this time, drop in minimums would be quite noticeable of up to 3°C-4°C, while maximum temperatures would drop by 1-2°C.

During this interval, we can expect the pollution levels in Delhi-NCR to recede to some extent.

In this manner, we may perhaps say that amid the next two to three days, winters would slowly and steadily grip the plains of Northwest India. Minimum temperatures that are presently settling above normal to near normal would then be below the normal range. Hence, for Northwest Indians, the wait seems to end as the winter is just at the door.
