Drop in intensity of Monsoon rains over Karnataka likely

Due to well-marked low pressure system over Vidarbha and adjoining Telangana and the upper air trough from this system which is extending southwards has activated rainfall activity over many parts of North Karnataka and central parts Karnataka.

Monsoon remained active over most parts of the state. But with the weakening of the system, the rainfall activity over the area is likely to reduce, however scattered light rain will continue over South Karnataka and at many places over coastal and North Karnataka. These areas may even witness few mod spell during next 24 hours, and reduce gradually.

In the last 24 hours significant rainfall has be recorded over the areas are Gulbarga 41 mm, Bidar 37 mm, Mani 30 mm, Siddapura in Uddupi 26 mm, Gersopa in Uttar Kannada received  36 mm, Maniki also in Uttar Kannada received 36 mm, Kadra 53 mm, Jankandi in Bagalkot 23 mm, Rabkavi 80 mm, Agumbe 34 mm.

Even Bangalore received very light rainfall of 0.2 mm. So as of now mainly dry spell will continue over the city with occasional light falls.

Coastal Karnataka is at present rainfall deficient by 21% for the Monsoon season. Similar is the case with south interior Karnataka which is also rainfall deficient by 19%. It is only north interior Karnataka that has received above normal rainfall of 7% rainfall.
