Delhi weather went almost completely dry in December 2015 with the city recording only 0.2 mm of rain in the month. Light and patchy rain was witnessed in the national capital on December 2 and December 10 in 2015. But other than that, weather in Delhi remained dry.
With just 0.2 mm of rain in December 2015, Delhi recorded its driest December since 2008 when the national capital recorded no rain at all.
Previously, in December 2005 too, the city had received no rain. Interestingly though, last year Delhi recorded 13.4 mm of rain in December, which was the monthly highest in a decade.
The table below lists rainfall in Delhi in the month of December:
Despite a good number of Western Disturbances (WDs) affecting the plains of North India in December, only light patchy rain was observed in Delhi. These WDs were weak in nature and only altered the flow of icy cold northerly winds. As a result, rain never really reached Delhi in December last year.
Now, a strong Western Disturbance is expected to impact the hilly states of North India on January 8. The system is likely to give light to moderate rain over the plains of North India. During this time, Delhi too is likely to receive light to moderate rain.
