Widespread rain in Andhra, Orissa and entire central India in the last 24hours is being enjoyed by the people here who are expecting more rain. And good news is rain gods will not disappoint. Forecast show widespread rain is expected to continue in Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidharbha and Chhattisgarh for another 24hours. Rain will be mainly moderate, i.e. between 20 to 30mm.
“Chances of heavy rain can’t be overlooked. Heavy showers of up to 50mm in pockets of southwest Madhya Pradesh and Marathwada are a high probability”, says a senior weather forecaster at Skymet Weather.
“The low pressure system is expected to move further into west Madhya Pradesh, east Gujarat and east Rajasthan by Thursday or Friday and give good amount of rain. Parts of south and coastal Gujarat may have heavy rain of up to 50mm or more”, says Mahesh Palawat, Head of the forecasting team at Skymet Weather.
So far, this is how the rainfall figures look: Ramagundum in Telangana recorded the highest rainfall of 74mm, Raipur in Chhattisgarh recorded 63mm, Solapur in Marathwada -60mm, Jagadalpur- 43mm, Hyderabad-35, Akola-36mm, Ahmedabad-30mm, Nagpur-14mm, Indore-12 and Bhopal recorded 3mm of rain.
On the other hand, after receiving very heavy rain, Delhi and almost entire north India may once again witness a period of lull this week. Delhi may receive only passing showers today which may be below 5mm. “Figures show Haryana and Punjab have been facing a rain deficit of up to 31% in the month of July though Delhi looks near normal, thanks to the heavy showers on Saturday, 20th July”, says Makarand Kulkarni, Chief of Statistical Research at Skymet Weather.
“Chances of rain could become bright only if the system in the Bay of Bengal moves in the northwest direction. This will give rain in north Orissa, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. It would also bring moderate rain in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and west Rajasthan-the hottest place in India. This may happen around Friday. As of now, low pressure system in the Bay looks stagnant”, adds Mahesh Palawat.
