Dozen Districts Of Tamil Nadu At Risk Of Heavy Rains

Northern and central parts of Tamil Nadu face the risk of witnessing flooding rains, commencing late tonight. Interiors of North Tamil Nadu also are vulnerable to lashing winds and rains. Extreme southern parts may skip the fierce fury and get away with moderate intermittent rains and moderately squally winds. Coastline from Chennai to Nagapattinam, across Cuddalore, Puducherry, Karaikal, Tambaram and Kanchipuram are aligned along the direct firing range of cyclone Mandous, brewing over Bay of Bengal. 

Cyclone Mandous is expected to rise to its full potential by late evening/ tonight, while positioned off the coastline of Tamil Nadu. Tropical storm is expected to slow down and stomp the shore between Nagapattinam and Chennai.  The capital city Chennai and union territory Puducherry may draw some solace, as the storm may face headwinds on account of entrainment and friction of land, to weaken its grade. 

Notwithstanding, the small mercy of sparing catastrophic fury, more than a dozen districts of Tamil Nadu will be at risk of lashing rains accompanied with gale speed winds.  The raging of storm, as a norm, diminish over deep pockets of land due to limited moisture and increased terrain friction. However, the thundersqualls still have the potential of inflicting damaging combination of forceful winds and hefty rains. 

Coastline and interiors of the state will be vulnerable to inclement weather conditions and flooding rains. Threat will be more severe along the shore than deep inland.  List of districts facing menace of stormy conditions include Chennai, Vellore, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalal, Kanchipuram, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Perambur, Viluppuram and Cuddalore. Also, Puducherry and Karaikal have equal, if not more, chance of getting battered with very heavy rains. Utmost caution need to be exercised to avert the damage to life and property.
