Double Digit Temperatures And Light Rain Over North Gujarat Likely

January 25, 2023 8:14 PM | Skymet Weather Team

State of Gujarat remains generally free from winter rains between December and February. Mercury levels do fluctuate but mostly remain in double digit in the hinterland. Extreme cold over the northern plains does find an extension to north and central Gujarat, dragging them to single digit minimum temperatures for short spells. Similar conditions are witnessed over Kutch and interiors of Saurashtra.

Northern parts of India are under the grip of active western disturbances over the next 4-5days. Mountains will have snow and plain to receive thundershowers with possible hailstorm at few places.  The likely pair of western disturbance over the next few days and its induced cyclonic circulation is drawing moist south-westerly winds from the Arabian Sea.
Low level winds from the Arabian Sea are sweeping across the state of Gujarat and Rajasthan before reaching plains of Punjab and Haryana.

Presently, minimum temperatures are running close to single digit at few places, outside South Gujarat. Naliya, Bhuj, Rajkot, Keshod, Gandhinagar and Deesa have recorded single digit temperatures in the past 24 hours.
Temperature pattern is likely to change to double digit over the next 24 hours. Rise of minimum temperature by 3-4 degree is expected across most parts of the state. Presence of induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan is expected to cause cloudy sky over North Gujarat  on 28th and 29th Jan.

While most other parts will witness moderate minimum temperature of 14-15 degrees in the next 3-4 days, some places in North Gujarat may also experience light rains. Deesa, Patan, Sabarkantha, Basankantha, Mehsana and Palanpur are likely to have short spell of light rain on 28th Jan. Weather conditions will improve from 30th Jan onward and the temperature drop is expected by 3-4 degrees across the region.
