India and Sri Lanka are expected to witness the first Tropical Cyclone of the season that will bring torrential rains and strong gusty winds over the southern peninsular India. Particularly, South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala will be lashed by incessant flooding rains.
The cyclone has been named as Ockhi and is at present over Comorin area, 60 km away from Kanyakumari and 120 km away from Thiruvananthapuram. This cyclone is moving in a west-northwest direction towards Lakshadweep Island and may further intensify into a severe Cyclonic Storm.

On account of Cyclone Ockhi, the southern peninsular India is expected to receive rounds of heavy rainfall with chances of mudslides and local flooding in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.
In India, the stations such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Kochi in Kerala whereas cities such as Kanyakumari, Sriviakuntam, Tuticorin, Cuddalore, Nagercoil, Rameshwaram, Ramanathapuram, Tondi in Tamil Nadu are expected to get torrential rains.
The rains associated with this cyclone are likely to continue lashing Kerala and Tamil Nadu until December 2 and will reduce gradually.

While this threat will start moving in the Arabian Sea, another fresh threat is expected to lash South India. A low-pressure area is brewing in the Malay Peninsula and adjoining the Andaman Sea. This system is also expected to gain strength and may become a well-marked low-pressure area in the next 24 hours. Subsequently, chances are high that even this will further intensify and concentrate into a Depression.
With this, another round of torrential rains is expected to lash parts of South India. The latter weather system will affect parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and a few parts of Telangana with flooding and destructive winds from December 4 to December 7. Thus, the first week of December will kick start with extremely heavy rains for Southern Peninsular India.
