Disaster Management in India: Who Gets It Done and How

April 30, 2015 6:50 PM |

Disaster management is a complex process and involves the participation and co-operation of several elite and trained units. India too utilizes a few of its specialized forces and institutes in order to cope with a natural or man-made disaster.

The three wings of the Armed Forces, the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), the paramilitary commandos, National Security Guards (NSG), Indian Railways, and local fire departments are some of the units and institutions which team up to deliver quality service in the event of a disaster.

These forces join hands to exercise rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations in a disaster hit region. From strategizing to full scale implementation of plans and aid mechanisms, these saviors work tirelessly to ensure the mitigation of life and property.

But India is home to several organizations and institutions. However, when the time comes, only a few rise up to the occasion. Frankly speaking, hardly two dozen of such organizations and units actually deliver. We salute all these teams for their timely support and aid.
