Dip In Mercury Level, Rain-Showers On Weekend In Delhi

The western disturbance is moving as an upper air system across the mountains. The induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan is weakening and will get filled up shortly. Under the combined influence of these two systems, Palam airport, Safdarjung observatory and some pockets in the region recorded cloudy sky and a spell of rain and thunderstorm, today morning between 0700-0800hr. This also provided a much-needed respite from the very dense fog which troubled the rail, road and air traffic alike for the last three days. Today, the visibility remained better at 200mtrs or more and has since become further good now. The Runway Visual Range was still better and therefore the flights were generally not affected, unlike the last 2-3 days.

In the wake of the western disturbance, the cold air will lead to a drop in the minimum temperatures for the next about 4 days. Both Safdarjung and Palam have recorded a minimum of nearly 10°C today, about 3°C above the normal. These levels are likely to dip and plunge to about 6°C around mid-week.

Another western disturbance is approaching on the weekend. This will have an induced system over the plains, as well. The intensity and spread of this system will be larger as compared to the previous one. Mountains and plains will witness weather activity, simultaneously. The next weekend between the 10th and 12th Jan 2025 will observe cloudy weather and scattered rains. The national capital will possibly record the first measurable rainfall of the new year. The weather conditions will become nippy, breezy and misty before the rainy spell.
