Different shades of Monsoon in Delhi and Mumbai

Monsoon in the two metros of India, Delhi and Mumbai have been contrasting in the month of September.

Delhi saw good amount of rains in succession during the first ten days of September.  So much so that it surpassed its monthly mean of 129.8 mm by 179 mm.

On the contrary, Mumbai witnessed rather scanty rainfall of 20.2 mm as against the monthly mean of 341.5 mm, regardless of the fact that the city records phenomenal rains in September even surpassing its monthly average by erratic three digit rainfall.

As per records, Mumbai surpassed its monthly mean with a huge of 444 mm in 2012, and followed the pattern in 2009, 2010 and 2014 exceeding more than 200 mm. 2013 was the year when the city saw mere 17 mm, identical to the course this year during the first ten days of September.

Now, as per weathermen, after being lashed by heavy rains, Delhi is all set to go dry at least for a week with anticipations of patchy light showers only during the next 24 hours.

Mumbai, on the other hand would possibly continue with deficit rains at least a week more.

In consonance to this, Delhi could see signs of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon during mid or late September anytime, although rains would carry on in Mumbai even in October despite end of the season on September 30.

As a result, temperatures would augment over the national capital in view of reduced rains along with drop in humidity owing to change in wind pattern. On the other hand, maximums in the enticing city of India, Mumbai would stay in 30-31°C in September alike July and August.
