Devotees planning to head towards the most popular shrine in North India, Vaishno Devi, this weekend, are likely to witness wet weather.
As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance persists over North Pakistan which is expected to move towards Jammu and Kashmir on January 14. This is likely to fetch along some rain and thundershowers over the region.
Due to this weather condition, maximum temperatures are also expected to witness a drop leading to cold weather conditions. Light rains are also a possibility over the area from January 14 and the rain intensity is likely to surge on January 15 until January 16. The possibility of isolated hailstorm cannot be ruled out in the region as well.
Currently, minimum temperature of Katra is 3.9°C which is 2 degrees below the normal. However, after January 14, a marginal rise in minimum temperature is likely. Though the cloudy sky is still expected to persist. Moreover, due to a drop in maximum temperatures, cold day conditions are expected to continue for another week.
Additionally, since the pilgrimage is at a higher altitude, temperatures are also expected to hit the sub-zero mark. As per the weatherman, hills near Vaishno Devi may experience snowfall between January 15 and January 16 leading to severe cold and icy weather conditions.
