Delhi has been witnessing sharp decline in the minimum temperatures for the last few days. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, minimum temperatures have been settling way below normal, in single digits against the average minimum temperature of 13°C.
During the initial 10 days of the month, the city recorded minimum temperatures between 16°C and 17°C. But from November 14 onwards the city has observed minimums settle between 9°C and 8°C, which is four degrees below the normal average.
The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 9.1°C on November 27, 9°C on 26th, 8°C on 25th, 8.5°C on 24th, 8.8°C on 23rd of the month, 8.8°C on 22nd, 9.8°C on 21st, 8.5°C on 19th, 8.6°C on 18th, 9.1°C on 17th, 9.4°C on 16th, 10.6°C on 15th, and 9°C on 14th November.
Despite minimums dropping, Delhiites are yet to feel the chill because the maximums are still high. The day temperatures are recording in high twenties, which is around the monthly average temperature of 28°C.
People begin to feel cold when there is a dip in the maximum temperature in sync with drop in minimums. Delhi, generally witnesses thick of winters by mid-December or if any Western Disturbance affects the higher reaches of North India.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, the weather in Delhi is going to remain the same for a couple of days more. In absence of any rain, maximum temperatures are not expected to come down soon.
Presently, a feeble Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu & Kashmir and has given snow in the higher reaches. It has also caused clouding over lower areas. The system is not impacting the northern plains at the moment.
