Despite heavy Monsoon rains in offing for Kerala and Karnataka, June to end on deficit note

Since the onset of Monsoon, both Coastal Karnataka and Kerala have been receiving good rains. Although the rain intensity went down at times but the weather has not gone dry completely over either of the area.

We expect heavy rains to continue over coastal parts of Karnataka and light to moderate rains over North Interior Karnataka and Kerala for the next two days as well.

Thereafter, the off-shore Trough will start weakening and will be active over along the Maharashtra coast only. Moreover, Monsoon surge in the form of strong southwesterly winds will also get subdued over the next few days.

Thus, the rains will decrease significantly over Kerala from June 27. The intensity of rains will also go down over interior parts of Karnataka also. However, coastal areas of Karnataka will continue with light to moderate rains.

So, we can say that rain deficiency is going to increase even more over both the states in the coming days and the month of June is set to end on a deficient note. As on June 24, Kerala is largely deficient by 33%, followed by Coastal Karnataka with 38%, South Interior Karnataka 25% and North Interior Karnataka 6%.

For the last many days, rains have remained subdued over interior parts of Karnataka, particularly South Interior Karnataka. However, on and off rains were still continuing over North Interior Karnataka.
