Rajasthan post

The state of Rajasthan has been divided into two sub-divisions, East and West Rajasthan. Considering the Monsoon performance of the state in the last many years, Rajasthan has been witnessing good rain showers this year.

Generally, East Rajasthan sees more rains as compared to West Rajasthan. So, it is obvious that the two sub-divisions do rather differently as far as rains are concerned in spite of being in the same state. The last occasion when Rajasthan observed significant rainfall deficiency was in the year 2009, this was when severe drought conditions were seen in India. During that time, the Pan-India rain deficiency was at -22%.

The same year, the state saw enormous rain deficiency, wherein West Rajasthan was deficient by -42% and East Rajasthan by -31%.

After 2009, Rajasthan performed pretty well in terms of rainfall and both the sub-divisions saw normal to excess rain.

Month-wise performance of Rajasthan varies from the overall at the end of Monsoon season. All four months may not be good, in the same way, all might not be bad.

Let’s look at the performance of Rajasthan in the past five years throughout the Monsoon season from June to September:

In accord to the above table; excess is when the state registers 20% or more rains than the normal, whereas deficit is when the area records less than 20% or more than the normal. Correspondingly, normal is when the state sees +/- 19% of rains of normal.

This year, Monsoon progressed early over the state of Rajasthan, covering the region by the end of June. From there on, following the recent past performance, both sub-divisions saw good rains.

This year, from June 1 to 30, Rajasthan witnessed excess rains to the tune of 68% that makes a massive surplus.

Similarly, from June 1 to July 31, the state remained above normal by 13%. Exclusively, both the sub-divisions performed well. On July 31, East Rajasthan stands rain surplus by 17% and West Rajasthan 7%.

For the subsequent few days, rains are expected to remain on the backseat. Mainly dry weather would prevail with light to very light rain activities. There are possibilities that the rains would revive over the state by August 10.
